On message boards and internal emails, hundreds of Facebook employees have protested Kaplan's appearance at the hearing. Some suggested that it gave the impression that Facebook was siding with Kavanaugh, even as he stood accused of sexual assault. One employee called it "a protest against our culture, and a slap in the face to his fellow employees." In a staff meeting last Friday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended Kaplan's decision to attend the hearing but said it was not something he himself would have done. Hundreds of protesters against US President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee have been arrested in Washington as the pick inched closer to winning confirmation. Republicans declared that an FBI report had exonerated Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault allegations. But Democrats said the five-day inquiry was "incomplete" because it was limited by the White House. The Senate will hold a procedural vote on the nominee on Friday.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh wrote an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal on Thursday arguing he is an "independent, impartial judge" and conceding he "might have been too emotional" in his testimony in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. "I was very emotional last Thursday, more so than I have ever been," Kavanaugh  writes in the Journal.  "I might have been too emotional at times. I know that my tone was sharp, and I said a few things I should not have said. I hope everyone can understand that I was there as a son, husband and dad. I testified with five people foremost in my mind: my mom, my dad, my wife, and most of all my daughters."
