RICHARD K. MORGAN  has spent most of the past decade working on his fantasy trilogy  A Land Fit For Heroes . The books were popular with readers, but Morgan has received a steady stream of emails urging him to write more science fiction in the vein of his 2002 debut  Altered Carbon . Police respond to a mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. BY  HEATHER DOCKRAY 3 HOURS AGO In Pittsburgh on Saturday, a gunman opened fire at the city's Tree of Life synagogue. At least 12  people were shot and at least four people killed at the Conservative congregation. As news began to spread of a shooting at the "conservative" house of worship, commentators on Twitter noted the difference between  Conservative Judaism  as a religious denomination and conservatism as a political philosophy.
